This week's surprises

I have a comfortably surprising life, largely thanks to my tendency to ACT NOW on impulses.
This past week or so I have puzzled myself by doing the following:

  • Buying an overlock sewing machine at an online auction in the middle of the night.
  • Suddenly (or rather after toying with the thought for 2 weeks) booking a concert ticket to Nightwish... In Stockholm.
  • Realizing that this means I actually have to go there, yet booking only the return ticket (?).
  • Asking my supervisor AFTER the above two points if it was OK that I work at a distance those two days... (he said OK)
  • Deciding two nights ago to build a bead chandelier (!) for my hall light, before going to bed. It was finished at 00:31 and now my hallway is not just red but also really kitschy.
  • Agreeing last week to start playing beach volleyball on a regular basis with my ex's friends.
  • Participating in an international (well, swe-finnish) project meeting at work, where on entering the room I didn't have any knowledge of the project's basic concept (Levels of Automation), and 4 hours later proposing how the deliverables could be designed.

Either I have no sense of self-preservation or I'm kaxig beyond logic, but the Finns seemed to like what I said.

Conclusion? My currently Dutch-resident friend Oscar (who, as fate would have it, is visiting G-burg as I write) once said that getting tossed into the sea teaches you really quickly how to swim. I guess if I get into enough moderate trouble on a regular basis, I'll be ready for anything.

And now, I'm off to fetch my wall-climbing certificate. As we say in swedish: Hepp!

  1. I wonder if it's a del Castillo tendency to be this compulsive. I myself have a list of weird things I've done spur of the moment that have no logical basis, but I'm actually not wary of them as they're kind of small actions. Miniature compulsive disorder? Is there such a thing?

  2. I like that! Miniature Compulsive Disorder... :)
Sounds like a diagnosis that suits us born-in-the-80's del Castillians. Only it's a question of attitude whether you suffer from the condition or revel in it!
