I happen to enjoy immensely the latter half of the winter season - one reason is that it's the all time-high birthday season in my family (first Rob, then me, then Mom), but also because my city has been wise enough to use February as the perfect time for the Gothenburg International Film Festival! Good thinking.
This year's crop (as harvested by Y. Truly, Eva and Lars, who is doing his best to fill Jenny's vacated shoes as "the third culture vulture" (no offense, mate ;)) involves the usual dose of mixed animation, some Norwegian tragicomedy, a japanese spaghetti western (called Sukiyaki Western Django, how do you beat a title like that??) and a (Norwegian, again) dark comedy on negative thinking. Not to mention our pièce de resistance - a documentary about Gogol Bordello (which I am developing ridiculously high expectations for...) We are scoring seven festival films so far, which is a decent OD on film. :)
If anyone's interested in some more in-depth explanations, have a gander below.
Lars and the Real Girl
Sukiyaki Western Django
Gone With the Woman
The Art of Negative Thinking
Gogol Bordello Non-Stop
The Best of Koji Yamamura
Maximerat Animerat (animation shorts, yay!)
