Packing for Seattle (very slowly)

A normal part of travelling is the making a big deal of it before going there.

I have spent the better part of this glorious day not getting my packing done. A significant procrastination-affirmative event today was my deciding to join Bagarn on a whim and go swimming in a local lake called Delsjön, which means 'Part lake'.

At least I could resume my packing afterwards with a clean conscience, confident that I had not let this sunny, tropical day go to waste. Any day partially spent underwater is a good day, in my opinion. But then I'm an incurable bathing fanatic.

This blog post, which honestly isn't about anything exciting, is also part of that procrastination. Tomorrow morning at 06.25 I leave a sizzling warm, sunny Gothenburg (31,5 degrees C in the shade!? For you Americans - That's real hot...) for Seattle, WA, famous for its precipitation levels and being the mother of Starbucks (which possibly accounts for the Sleepless thing... no, wait, I forgot about decaf... mystery still unsolved...) .

My colleague Dan and I are going to a 'Digital Human Modeling Conference' to present 2 posters about our research project about ergonomics simulation. One of them looks like this:

Personally, I'm really itching to learn more about the digital human modeling realm - largely because I'm supposed to be developing some kind of expertise in the field due to my PhD:ing. Luckily for me, this conference seems to attract the hotshots and superstars of this research field, so I will probably return inspired :)

Anyway, back to packing: this should not surprise my fellow filipino-ish relations who read this, but the rest of you (if you had seen my luggage) might have wondered why I am bringing 4,5 kg of Marabou chocolates and one hunk of Kvibille Cheddar cheese (fat content 26%). This is not evidence of a hell-bent desire to return from my trip with a surprising brand-new physique.

Since I will be staying with my second cousins Cliff & Cy and their parents Auntie Pina and Uncle Oscar, I do as I have been carefully taught by my mother: I come bearing Pasa Lubong, a filipino gesture of courtesy meaning 'travellers gifts'. Mom has throughout the years taught me the foolproof plan: when in doubt, bring torrents of swedish chocolates. And cheese.
(And hope and pray that they don't melt in the sweltering swedish summer heat!)

Ooh boy. Going to have to get up early... Be at airport by 05.30... Means getting up 04.30... Good thing I have a breakfast plan: 1/4 of the pizza I had for dinner this evening (couldn't finish it) and what's left of my Blåbärsfil. That should last me till Amsterdam.
